The origin and processing of our down and feathers

The quality of our duvets and pillows begins with the selection of raw materials. That is why we set the highest standards for the origin, purity and processing of our down and feathers.

Since 1900, we have been combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology – and processing our raw materials ourselves, directly at our production site in Lörrach in the Black Forest.

We source our down and feathers from selected regions around the world. For us, the key factors are the highest quality, transparent supply chains and the responsible treatment of animals.

We categorically reject live plucking and down from force-fed birds. We use only down and feathers that are by-products of meat production, and we work exclusively with suppliers who meet our high standards. Furthermore, we process only Class I down and feathers in accordance with DIN EN 12934. Our DOWNPASS certification underlines our commitment to animal welfare and traceability.

Our fully integrated production process is what sets us apart: we are able to carry out all production processes – such as washing, drying, sorting and blending the down and feathers – in-house:

First, the raw material is thoroughly washed with water from our own deep well. It is then hygienically processed and dried at around 130 °C.

In modern sorting plants, down and feathers are separated according to their properties using precisely calibrated airflows. We then use these to create precisely defined fill qualities – tailored to the various requirements for thermal performance, loft and sleeping comfort.

For us, quality is measurable

Our in-house testing laboratory, certified by the European Down & Feather Association (EDFA), is a key component of our quality assurance system.

Here, we test our raw materials for, amongst other things, their composition, bulk density, purity, hygiene and fat content. Regular checks and successful inter-laboratory tests ensure that our high quality standards are maintained.
